In May 2025, with support from City Council, the Community Development Department hosted a Tiny Homes Workshop where the community was invited to learn about the ordinance process, the application process, tiny homes standards, meet with a local tiny homes business, and tour a tiny home in an open house format.
A tiny home is a movable detached residential dwelling no larger than 399 square feet that sits on the same parcel as the primary residence. A tiny home provides the same functions as a regular home such as sleeping, living, kitchen, and sanitation. A tiny home can be a more reasonable priced option for homeowners wanting to add more temporary or long-term livable space.
Additionally, in the proposed tiny home ordinance, compostable toilets will be an option whereas it was not in the two-year pilot program, which sunset in the Fall of 2023. A compostable toilet is an option for those properties where plumbing cannot be easily accessible or for those who are environmentally and/or sustainably conscience.
